But the most unique thing about it are its TWO
coastlines! In turn, these coastlines are unique in many ways as
well...
Parts of them have been designated as official Areas of
outstanding natural beauty (AONB). Other stretches are World
heritage sites.
From Plymouth, the historic city and naval port in the South to Lynmouth:(Little Switzerland) near to the Somerset border in the North. From The “Jurassic” coast in the East to the glorious Blue
flag beaches of Woolacombe and
Surfers favourites like Croyde bay. Not forgetting, the English Riviera itself:Torbay. Learn about them all on this one visitor-guide website.

Three general areas cover The countys coasts. They are: The North,
South and East coasts. (The West of the county faces Cornwall along
the River Tamar and has no coast as such!) And... the East coast is
in fact on the South of the county and parts of the North Coast
face West! Don't worry, just one quick look at the map below will
show you exactly what I mean.

North Devon: Rugged coastlines and world class beaches North Devon with it's rugged coast and world class beaches. It's an ideal mix of fantastic beaches for great surfing and swimming as well as beautiful hogback cliffs for walking and exploring.
East Devon: The Jurassic coastline! East Devon. This Jurassic coast is an official World Heritage Site. From Dorset into Devon at Seaton and all the way to Exmouth. Take a 185 Million year walk through time!
South Devon: South Devon is arguably the best known part of the county perhaps. From the River Exe in the east to Plymouth in the south, including Torbay: The English Riviera!
South West Coast Path: The South West Coastal path is the longest coastal trail in Britain. From Minehead in Somerset all the way around the Devon and Cornwall coast to Poole in Dorset and it's 630 miles long!
AONB Devon: AONB: AREA OF OUTSTANDING NATURAL BEAUTY. Both of Devons coastlines are made up almost entirely of AONB! Find out more about how it all works and is awarded.
